Bill Kelly has more than 20 years of experience in teaching self-defense and martial arts in the greater Richmond area. He has actively trained or instructed in the martial arts for most of his adult life.
He received his 1st Dan black belt on August 26, 1988 in Tampa, FL under the instruction of 9th Dan Grand Master Yung Ho Jun. He then trained under Grand Master Y. K. Kim of Orlando, FL and 6th Dan Master Keith Winkle in Richmond, VA.
He received his 2nd Dan, Instructor, Referee and Examiner certification culminating at a four-day summit in Florida with Grand Master Kim on June 25, 1995.
He received his 3rd Dan black belt with 7th Dan Grand Master Thomas F. Henzey, the founder of 7 Tigers Tae Kwon Do School in Charlottesville, VA.
In 2011, Mr. Kelly was awarded his 4th Dan black belt and Masters Certification in the United States Chung Do Kwan Association, founded by 9th Dan, Sr. Grandmaster Edward Sell. Our school is also a charter school in the United States Chung Do Kwan Association (USCDKA) under the oversight of Grandmaster Sell and his wife, Grandmaster Brenda J. Sell.
Master Kelly has also achieved the level of 3rd Dan black belt in the World Hapkido Association (WHA) with 8th Dan Grand Master Tae Jung. Master Kelly is also a certified instructor and Shield is also a WHA a charter school.
Master Kelly has taught self-defense in Richmond at Martial Arts World and with AIM USA. In fourteen years of work with AIM, he taught thousands of students across the greater Richmond area, promoting over 100 students to black belt.
Master Kelly is also a devoted family man. He has been married to his wife Cathy for more than 30 years, and they have three sons—all black belts.
